Despite the rise in online shopping in recent years, high street bureau de change are still alive and kicking; and they come in all shapes and sizes. Here's a selection of the top places on the high street where you can buy your travel money:

The Post Office

Every high street has a Post Office. There are over 11,000 Post Office stores across the UK that provide a foreign exchange service and most of them stock a wide variety of currencies that you can reserve online (at a better exchange rate) and collect in store. See this page for the latest Post Office exchange rates.

Department stores

If you live near a John Lewis store you're in luck. John Lewis offer some of the best exchange rates on the high street provided you reserve your currency on their website before you collect. See the latest John Lewis exchange rates here.

Supermarkets

Most of the UK's biggest supermarkets offer a foreign exchange service including Tesco, ASDA, Waitrose and Sainsburys. Morrisons do not offer a travel money service themselves, but some stores have partnered with No1 Currency to offer this service. You'll usually get a better exchange rate at a supermarket compared to the Post Office.

Pawnbrokers

Pawnbrokers are not particularly competitive when it comes to exchange rates but they can be convenient due to their location at the heart of many high streets. Most Ramsdens stores buy and sell currency over the counter.

Independent store

The two biggest names in independent travel money are No1 Currency and eurochange. Both brands offer very competitive exchange rates and between them they have over 500 stores across the UK. Be sure to reserve your currency on their website first or you may be given a lower rate if you walk in off the street.
